Honest Sales - Debunking the Experts

I don't know about you, but I'm so tired of being told, "You need to buy my program or you won't be successful."

I call B.S. on that.

How do I know?

Because I've bought your program and I'm not yet financially successful.

I've invested over 180k in my business and personal development.

While I've learned a LOT and am happy with my purchases (well, some of them), I learned that FOMO (fear of missing out) was my driving force (or, rather, guilt).

I believe there are three reasons people buy from you: 1) they NEED what you're selling; 2) they WANT what you're selling; or 3) they feel guilted into buying what you're selling, so they buy from you and they have buyer's remorse a couple minutes, or hours, or days later.

#3, in my opinion, happens because of the guilt trip that so many salespeople have learned. Having attended countless events, I see it ALL the time and it drives me nuts. The speaker gets up there and tells you how screwed up you are and how, "if you sign up for my program," you'll become rich "just like me." "Here's all of my accolades and how awesome I am, "buy" the way." (Using the word "buy" in a presentation is one of many tactics.)

These sales tactics are slimy and oftentimes leave the buyer feeling like they were taken advantage of. Who wants to work with someone who makes them feel like that, anyway?

I hate sales tactics because they feel so slimy, so I use techniques to find out what YOUR wants and needs are. If I have a solution for you, then I offer it to you. If you don't buy, then you're not ready and I'm not going to try to force you into it. That just makes you regret it and I end up regretting it, too, because I sell with my heart.

Anyway, in this video I talk about selling, ways to bring in a quick infusion of cash.

I debunk the "experts" and what they say you NEED to have in order to make sales.

It's all a bunch of B.S. to get you to buy what they're selling.

Ask yourself these questions before buying (especially if you're at an event or watching a webinar where they tell you to BUY NOW):

  • Do I really need this, or am I letting FOMO take over?
  • Is there something else I should be doing that I'm not doing (that I already paid for)?
  • What can I do differently than what I'm doing now?
  • Are there free classes I can sign up for that will give me the same result?

Once you've asked yourself these questions, go to your next step.

  • What will happen if I DON'T buy this product today?
  • Will they really raise the price next time and I won't get in at the "ONLY TIME I'M OFFERING IT AT THIS PRICE" deal? (that's a whole other story)
  • Is THIS really the only product out there for me to buy to get the results I want?
  • Does this person feel authentic? Do they really care about me and my results?
  • Do they offer a guarantee?
  • How does it compare to other similar products out there?

Now that you're armed with these questions, ask them to yourself the next time you're watching a webinar, attending a seminar, 1-day, 3-day, 5-day event, or participating in a 5-day challenge.

While the person putting on the session may be interested in helping you make money, for the most part their REAL interest is in them making money.

I've turned away clients because they weren't ready for my program.

My mission is to help empower you to make the right decisions for yourself and your future, not to line my pockets with your money.

Don't get me wrong. Heck, yeah, I want to make money. But not at your expense.

I truly want to help you.

I hope you enjoy watching this short video with my take on sales and debunking the experts.

I'm sick and tired of so many of them taking advantage of too many people. In this video I share some ways you can get a quick injection of cash.

Oh, and I have a piece of land on Debunk Island to sell you. (I've even bought timeshares I rarely used.)

FOMO is part of sales psychology, though I don't think it's always a bad thing. I do agree with you about pressure sales. I detest them, especially if they don't over-deliver on the value. Pressuring someone into a purchase is a bad dynamic to be in as a coach, consultant, or service provider. More times than not, you'll spend the rest of the relationship trying to convince the client they didn't make a mistake. There's definitely a right way and a wrong way to do sales and marketing. Thanks for sharing Lynda!
