An Honest Review - ThreatGEN: Red vs. Blue

An Honest Review - ThreatGEN: Red vs. Blue

[Brief Description:]

ThreatGEN: Red vs. Blue is a turn based ICS Cybersecurity Game. The end game objectives can vary depending on how you have configured that current game session. Blue Teamers (Defenders) are required to hastily build up the organizations layers of defense while facing real world budgetary and resource constrains. Red Teamers (Attackers), much like in the real world are constantly gathering intelligence about their target, and are proding and probing the network to find just one (or many) vulnerabilities so that they could further gain a foothold within the Blue Teamer's network. Once you have selected your chosen action, depending on its complexity it would require resources (and money for Blue Teamers), along with waiting an X number of turns before the action has been successfully implemented/performed.

[Positives:]

-This game is unlike any other, it is nothing like Hack The Box or Circadence's Project Ares. You aren't required as a Red Teamer to practically apply your pen testing skills by popping a box, you are only selecting an action which will accomplish the task.

--A great way would be to describe the game much like chess, in chess when the pawn is taken out by say the queen, you performed that action yourself and you weren't in the queens shoes. ThreatGEN is a third person, turn based Cybersecurity Game.

-The game is extremely affordable! I would say that this is the first time i have been able to purchase a Cybersecurity Game, usually i am completely denied due to having to take a serious monetary knock when required to convert from Rands to Dollars. An affordable game would allow ThreatGEN to reach out to all Information Security professionals from around the world.

-ThreatGEN: Red vs. Blue has the makings of building whole Cybersecurity Gaming Communities. At this point in time the game is only available in Multiplayer Mode, so you would be playing with other gamers waiting in the game lobby. You could also play the game with your InfoSec friends.

-New updates to the game will change your enjoyment of the game tenfold. Just look at "Whats Next" in store for game owners in the near distant future:

[Negatives:]

-The game is glitchy at times. The few games that i've played with a friend we were unable to make it all the way to the end and complete our action on objectives... (There has been a recent patch released since then so i hope that this has been resolved)

[Conclusion:]

I for one absolutely love the idea of gamified learning, and i do believe ThreatGEN: Red vs. Blue is merely a glimpse of whats to come in the future in this space.

**Cyber eSports in the future say WHAAAAT**

"This game can be fun for the whole family" - Seeing other comments on LinkedIn from InfoSec Pros stating that they would introduce this game to their children as a way of teaching them the core fundamentals of Cybersecurity makes me agree with this statement.

Well thats the end of this review, i do hope you would join me for a game or two.

The Game is sold on STEAM, URL: https://store.steampowered.com/app/994670/ThreatGEN_Red_vs_Blue/

Had my first real online game yesterday - had a blast. Looking forward to the implementation of single player too ??
