Honest Abe Log Homes Video #8 of 10 [6:32 minutes] focuses on the Deck and Porch Systems and how it protects your logs and stains.
There are many design options for your porches, shed or gable. These materials can be incorporated into outdoor living spaces as well as larger shelter style porches and carports.
What is a log or timber frame home without a porch? They seem to be an essential part of our customer's dreams and home designs. In this video, Josh walks us through common porch designs and the materials we use.

A standard porch package consists of treated joists and decking, 6x6 White Pine posts, top plates and angle braces. We also include the same 2x6 roof decking used in our ceiling beam and heavy timber roof systems. [Note: Some companies use OSB for the roof decking and eves. It is of lower quality and does not look as nearly as nice as does our 2x6 premium T&G.]
Gable porch designs may see additional and larger dimensioned timbers, along with some use of Doug Fir for rafters and girders when necessary.
Porches create more than a functional family outdoor living space, they also protect your home and provide added longevity to your logs and stain.
