Homologation RampFest Indoor Skate Park, Melbourne, Australia.
The day after the UCI BMX SX World Cup races in Shepparton it was off to Melbourne for another park inspection. Chris Bierton welcomed us and informed us about the park which is looking forward to hold UCI BMX Freestyle Park C1/CN and CC events.
Rampfest first opened in August 2008 as Australia's largest indoor skate park. The high roof is unique and welcome when building an indoor facility with bigger ramps. Located in an industrial estate, the building isn’t the newest and some of the wood on the ramps looks well used. One part of the park recently received an overhaul and now features a bigger bowl with better lines to the jump box section. It’s well built and works.
Next to the new section the lower section features a driveway, box jump, spine, resi landing and a foam pit. The resi section is well designed so during contests, the mats that are on top, can be removed (“resi doesn’t count”). The foam pit can be covered during company to form an organization platform or space for spectators. The quarter pipe and the quarters to resi-landing are reached at the end of the park. Also, this resi-landing from the quarter pipes on each side can be removed during competitions making it a resi and foam-free park.
Rampfest is also one of those spots that are well used by top BMX Freestyle Park riders. Being there in person was a trip.
