THE HOMILY IN TODAY’S MASS

THE HOMILY IN TODAY’S MASS

During the humility in today’s 6.15 am mass, the priest touched on the issues of corruption and herdsmen killings in the country. With regard to corruption he said for us to eradicate  corruption in Nigerian we should start from the grass root. He painted a scenario that if you go to a police station and you are told to make statement and if you ask for biro they will tell you that there is no biro and even if they find one to give you it will be the one that does not have ink. What you need do at this moment is to perform ie you are expected to part with some money. If you go to some offices and you need the help of from a security man at the gate for example he/she will expect you to roja him/her. Roja means giving out money. He was of the view that corruption is not only associated with government officials  at the top but all Nigerians at different levels. Hence, for corruption to be eradicated in Nigeria all Nigerians should be ready to fight this cankerworm that has eaten deep into our fabrics. President Buhari can not do it alone but all Nigerians should be involved.

However, with regard to herdsmen killings, he said that so many lives have been wasted due to incessant killings perpetrated by herdsmen in different parts of the country. He was of the view that herdsmen now value the security and lives of their cattle more than human life. This is quite unfortunate. The question is will the provision of ranches bring the killings being perpetrated by herdsmen to a stop? I understand that most of these killings are being perpetrated by militia men that usually find their way into the country through the so called Nigeria’s porous borders. Government should do something about our borders too.
