Homeschooling will be permitted under the new UGC credit scheme, and students will have a variety of ways to enter and exit the educational system.

While most children pointed to "A for apple" in a book and had no notion where it came from, Pransh Ssonawane was carefully observing an apple tree in Himachal Pradesh. Aneekah says her six-year-old can distinguish between pear, peach, and cherry trees. Pransh isn't like the typical student. He dropped out of school to gain education from his experiences travelling through India.

Pune-based Aneekah saw her son struggle with online studies during the 2020 lockdown. He was bored after six months at home. She claims he missed engaging with peers and teachers. The mother quit her job as an IT professional in 2020. She took her son to Himachal Pradesh until physical classes commenced. She says “Classrooms don't teach everything. Some come from meeting new people and travelling. This information is not typically covered in school. We can return to a syllabus anytime. But do it now while the moment lasts.”

When they travel, Aneekah has observed a significant change in her son: he is incredibly flexible. He has a history of temper tantrums at home. But he puts his pride aside when he's on the road. He had dinner with the monks at Key Monastery in Leh, and the food was unlike anything he's ever had before, but he loved it.

Although homeschooling in India seems new, Nomad Mom and Travel Moms are gaining popularity these days. Parents and students have realised the significance of self-study, especially after the lockdown. Many also enjoyed online study, and they now find offline classes inadequate.?

Finally, the government also understood this and “Homeschooling” and other alternatives to traditional schooling will soon be recognised as legitimate modes of education. The University Grants Commission (UGC) released the final National Credit Framework (NCrF) report, in which it recommended significant changes to India's school education system, including multiple exit and entry points for students and a credits system.

The Modi government's National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 seeks to provide numerous school-level admission and departure choices for kids who prefer vocational training or must leave school midway. After the pandemic, a number of students who chose homeschooling may find this to be a relief. Right now, homeschooling isn't regulated in any way. For future opportunities, students need Class 10 and Class 12 board exam certificates.

It also aims to establish credits at all levels, which are a measure of the number of hours a student has invested and the amount of coursework completed. The credit system will supplant the current course grading system. Similar reward system is also used in DAIS WORLD where news readers get points (can be used for shopping) for reading news. The NCrF seeks to bring school education, higher education, and skilling under a single assessment umbrella. It was first developed in October of last year and released for public comment.?

According to the policy document, the framework was jointly developed by the UGC, All India Council For Technical Education (AICTE), National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT), and National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), MSDE, Government of India (NCVET) in order to facilitate "a seamless transition of students from school to college."?

After many setbacks, it appears that NEP 2020 will be put into effect soon. "Good things take time," as the adage goes. We hope that the quality of this will justify the delay. To put India's massive youth population to good use, the country's educational system desperately needs a major overhaul. Additionally, it's crucial for our "Amrit Kaal" growth and our PM vision of India @ 100.?
