Hello LinkedIn! I'm back with a Homemade Better Lah article. In case you forgot, Homemade Better Lah is a series where we share the stories of home businesses. We believe food tastes better when you get to appreciate the individuals behind the meal. With that, say hello to My Little Kitchen, a humble home kitchen in the heart of Bukit Damansara serving some of the most wholesome and comforting Chinese and Fusion meals every day.
We did a quick and simple Q&A session with My Little Kitchen. Here's their delicious story!
What inspired you to start this business? How did you come up with your brand?
“Being out of job and studying MBA concurrently, to occupy myself with something that will benefit myself and others, we opened this company. The name of the company came from its facility size, since it is home cooked food in a little kitchen.”
How did you come up with your menu?
“There should be a balance between meat items, so our menu is mixed with pork, chicken, and beef (lower priority).
Since our kitchen is "little,” we don’t cook more than one type of meat in a day. We have built our menu so that the same item will be repeated only after 2 months so regular customers will not get bored.”
What’s your process of adding a new menu item?
"We are flexible since it is a little kitchen; therefore, once we think of a nice item to add, we may experiment it on ourselves first. If we have no time, we just add it without trying it because we follow recipes (from trusted sources) carefully and precisely."
Which is your favorite menu item from your shop and why?
"Herb roasted chicken with roasted veggies and Russian borsch. People who tried those items always say it was good, juicy, nice, etc. They are favorites for us because they are not ordinary, though herb roasted chicken can be done in many other shops, but again, our approach and process of cooking are different.
For our daily menu items which change every week, I don’t have favorites because, for me, those items are ordinary. However, my wife has favorites when I cook for us the same as I cook for others."
