HOMELESS MAN BUILDS BEACHES IN PEOPLE'S BACKYARDS AND BECOMES A MILLIONAIRE
The once formerly-Homeless Eric White is now the owner of Zydeco Construction. He now owns a Louisiana-based company that builds beaches in people’s backyards and making millions doing it.
For him, growing up wasn’t an easy time. When White was 15 years old, he became homeless for a period of about eight months. He dropped out of school at ninth grade and only had a second-grade reading skill. In an interview, he said how he could hardly spell his own name. This guy needed some miracle to get a job.
Somehow, he understood how constructions worked. He knew, he could do something with it. Therefore, he started working for a local construction company which gave him the opportunity to pay the bills. Then he moved to a job as a mechanic for a Ford dealership, but he said he didn't love it. However, later on, he found out about a job opening with a Baton Rouge-based company that paid $12 an hour, which gave him the opportunity to move up. He described how the man who took him on really molded him and took him under his wing and within six months, he was managing a team. He knew, that if he worked hard, he could definitely achieve something. This guy is a natural at this. White was extremely ambitious and continued to work his way up with various construction companies. He also learned how companies work. His passion and work ethics were unbelievable.
Eventually, he decided to start his own company, a pool business called Cool Pools. Then came Zydeco Construction. The company swimming ponds that resemble small beaches. The water is crystal blue and they have 360 degrees of sand surrounding them. Each pond is completely customizable and is outfitted with accessories, including outdoor kitchens, gazebos, umbrellas, and volleyball nets. The 33-year-old says the sky is the limit when it comes to creating your dream beach. It seems to be working as the company is very successful and White is making millions every year from it!
Without a doubt, the ponds are dazzling. But, how much does one cost to construct? The average costs around $40,000. “Each pond that we do is customized for that area and for the customer. It isn’t something that can be done in a day. They are a true labor of love,” said White.“We will do something different on every pond we create.”
White’s company also offers in-ground trampolines and outdoor kitchens. He also is in the business of drainage solutions and can build levees for homes that experience flooded backyards.
