Homeless Homie Darrell is on the mend!

Here is the piece that ran over the weekend on Darrell. Very excited to see he's getting a dog, and that he moves into his own place this next week.

For those new to his story, we met Darrell down on our Urban Singletrack Project trails during a ride night. Craig called me and told me to come to where he was. Darrell's tent was clean as could be with a bed made better than any of us. Books neatly stacked and "yard" raked like a zen garden almost. 

Craig got his bike working, and John Crandall at Old Town cut me a deal on a new lock for him too as Darrell didn't have one. We then learned he had his ID stolen and had tried for 2 MONTHS to get a new one via Springs Resue Mission with zero help...just empty promises. 

So I posted to FB figuring I had to know someone. Jeanette Falu-Bishopwould answer the call to help, someone I never had met up until that moment. So her and her husband Mike Russell met up with Craig Carroll, Darrell, and I to get it figured out. Jeanette has ZERRO training in Social work or such matters related to this task, yet she figured it out in her spare time (she also owns a business, is a mom, and helps with Mike's nonprofit for vets) in just under 2 weeks. 

I reached out to Joe Coleman who had Blue Star still at the time, he gave Darrell a job and things were looking good. However, early fall of 2017 I'd get a call from Craig that an attempt on Darrell's life was made and he was in the hospital in a coma. We didn't think he'd wake up. 

But now he's moving into his own place and moving around like a pro again. I talk to Big D 3-4x a month since he woke up and each month is better and better. Excited for him to get his own place and back to moving forward again.
