Health Optimization Medicine and Practice
&
Microbiome Labs
Symposium in Hollywood, Florida and I'm still buzzing.
I was surrounded by brilliant people, who not only are pioneers and experts in their field, but are also genuinely kind, inspiring individuals who want to make a difference in the world.
Here are some of the key takeaways from the conference that I wish everyone was privy to:
-
Dr. Ted Achacoso
- doctor by the age of 22 and founding pioneer of Health Optimization Medicine:1. The question is "How do we get healthy?" not "Why did we get sick?"2. BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor) increases by 60% if you exercise regularly - which directly correlates to lowering risk of depression3. Your cells will take 6-9 months to start to shift and balance once you begin to focus on health optimization
- Dr.
Dr. Scott Sherr
- HBOT specialist and co-founder of OneBase Health:1. GABA deficiencies can show up as OCD, fear, schizophrenia, etc. 2. GABA supplements cannot penetrate the brain/blood barrier because the molecule is too big - if the supplement is helping, you may have a "leaky brain"3. The conversion of glutamine to GABA can be impaired things like a B6 or magnesium deficiency, or even a high copper/low zinc ratio, which is why testing is important
-
Jodi Duval
- naturopathic physician and owner of Revital Health in Perth, Australia:1. CBD consumed with fat is 14x more effective than when it is used in a fasted state2. large doses of CBD can be sedative and have the opposite effect - when working with CBD: "start low, go slow, stay low"3. Cannabis can clean heavy metals from the soil so finding a quality unadulterated source is important
-
Kiran K.
- microbiologist and founder of multiple succesful health-focused companies:1. Human microbiome's can be 90% different from each other despite humans being genetically 99.9% similar2. Stress in the #1 killer of people3. Everything from acne to aging has been linked to a gut dysbiosis
- Dr.
Dominic D'Agostino
- researcher and tenured professor at the University of Southern Florida:1. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) has been shown to create enough oxidative stress in certain cancer cells that they explode and die2. A tailored keto diet can increase NAD more than supplements3. D-agulose is new kind of keto friendly sweetener that is being shown to have protective qualities on the cell
My residual buzz is highly correlated to the quality of people I was surrounded by, and the deeper connection I made to the Health Optimization team that made me feel like this wasn't just a conference.
When the conference ended, this was a group of people I said "see you soon" to instead of the usual "nice to meet you", and I'm pretty sure my brain is still processing the amount of knowledge I gained from those few short days.
