There are moments when you’ll experience the rewards of influencing organizational culture from the inside out. I believe many of these professional victories stem from our victories at home. It reminds me of an amazing moment I had with my son recently.

We were 3 months into the global pandemic, and my son was one of two students chosen to share a summary of his entire elementary school experience. I watched as my oldest child RJ presented in front of the entire school board and some other special guests. This would be nerve-wracking for an adult, so you can imagine what a 5th grader might feel presenting to 30 leaders on a formal Zoom call.

Talk about lights, camera, action!

Leading up to what I call the big dance, I had the honor of encouraging him, coaching him, and working through last-minute nerves with him. Shhhh, don’t tell - but I think I was more nervous than he was!

Here was my final presentation advice for RJ (and it's the same for you today): Everything you have done up to this point has prepared you for this special opportunity.

He was prepared, he worked at his craft, he sought out objective help, he overcame the nerves, and he came out on top! One of the best things about this amazing experience was that I had a front-row seat.?

This is one close relationship in which I was present, inspired an idea, and provided practical tools. In the end, we shared the thrill of victory together.?

Immediately following his Zoom session, I picked him up in my arms (like he was 5), swung him around, and said, “I’m so proud of you! You nailed it!”

Homefront victories translate into workplace wins because we carry our positive mindset and achievements with us wherever we go.
