Home As A Verb & A Noun

Home As A Verb & A Noun

  • Verb
  • At, to, or toward the direction of home: going home for lunch.
  • On or into the point at which something is directed: The arrow struck home.
  • To the center or heart of something; deeply: Your comments really hit home.

The best thing about being in business is being in the right one. I'm a Realtor and August 2020 we are having a very strong sellers’ market. During any type of market, I really enjoy my occupation helping people move. Even during the real estate crisis of 2008 to the BP Oil Spill -- I felt energized every time I helped someone achieve their goal of moving.

Today I'm writing about Home as a Verb AND Home as a Noun.

Noun
a house, apartment, or other shelter that is the usual residence of a person, family, or household

In business and sales, when you really enjoy what you do then you also see what an impact you can make for the people around you. Like me, if you have been in business for a long time you are also good at sales. Sales in any business has a systematic approach so you can run it like a business and enjoy a great personal life. I do.

Around the world, sales practitioners will read this, and our only difference is how we are able to operate our systematized approach. In the U.S. we have a Constitution from the formation of our government in 1776. The infrastructure of a country will always determine the breadth and depth and height your business and sales can operate.

Do sales practitioners have a special place and ability to be in the center or heart of something; deeply ? I think so. I think it affects our home, our country too. Yes!

Why?

Because a country is defined by its culture. And the culture of commerce- of buying and selling- is dominating American culture. We are seeing some downgrading of the sacred political foundations our Founding Fathers tried to build.

How do I come to believe and understand what is being downgraded?

For over three centuries, historians presented American history from a broad perspective, but in the 1960s historical writers widely embraced what today is called the “economic view of American history” whereby economic causes are the primary and almost singular emphasis of study. Consequently, students study only “taxation without representation” when they examine the Declaration of Independence rather than important civil, governmental, and moral principles addressed in that document.

There are on a few easy to find resources which have original documents. I believe this group has the largest library of authentic writing from our Founding Fathers in America. I have enjoy studying from their resources. Constant continuing education in my field aligns with their resources too.

As you know from reading my other blogs- and will learn from White Hat Sales, I believe in commerce. Like charity, commerce is a special reflection of personal liberty- but it should never overshadow or subtract from our political freedoms of the promise of Democratic Republic.

Many of you reading this join me in believing that our country, the United States, should be a true beacon of light and liberty for all people, a paradigm that has grown and expanded in many ways since its origin, although often tainted by those who would put their predatory instincts above our people’s natural passions for justice, equality and liberty.

Right now, we desperately need to return to that paradigm where we somehow left off and to restore the rightful place that free enterprise truly fits on the porch of liberty built so nobly by our Founding Fathers. After the early years of the Republic, smart and fervent American patriots, in efforts spread over several centuries, helped extend those critical economic and citizen rights to women, ethnic and religious minorities.

But recently, our citizens have been sold a bill of goods by politicians and special interest groups that degrade the rule of fair competition and true market value must occupy on that porch of personal liberty and commercial freedom.

To restore that sense of balance, I believe we should use what remains unchallenged of our freedom of expression to explore various paradigm shifts, which have diminished our value for real freedom. Some clarity in doing this may be found in elements of human culture called mores and folkways as defined in modern sociology. Mores distinguish the difference between right and wrong, while folkways draw a line between right and rude.   Folkways are like what we generally speak of as “customs,” the all-important norms for routine or casual interaction. This includes ideas about appropriate greetings and proper dress in different situations. Understanding these elements will enhance our ability to interact responsibly in other cultures, creating real communication and workable boundaries for   commerce, civil liberties, military, and politics. To pursue our rights to commerce, we cannot overlook potential gaps in communication because of cultural misunderstandings.

Coping with the differences between our cultural conventions is a hallmark of the United States of America and I believe we represent the finest leadership in the world for intercultural competence.

The springboard here is to focus on these strengths and grow with the needs heard from consumers every day – the profile that comprises of every nationality from every continent. My approach to business has its origins in international real estate and these concepts have been used effectively with every nationality from almost every continent.

Successful Realtors understand FAIR HOUSING. FAIR HOUSING practices are set forth so there are legal and economic definitions to FAIR. Collectively I have seen in my 20 years that these parameters for professional behavior are mirrored with most TOP PRODUCERS. It is a daily regimen and I highly recommend the great feeling every day: waking up knowing I am contributing to the greater good. Getting better at it every day. Striving and learning and training and practicing good practices.

The Fair Housing Act protects people from discrimination when they are renting or buying a home, getting a mortgage, seeking housing assistance, or engaging in other housing-related activities. Additional protections apply to federally-assisted housing.Learn about the History of the Fair Housing Act: https://www.hud.gov/program_offices/fair_housing_equal_opp/fair_housing_act_overview

At the very core of White Hat Sales is respect for the consumer and the breaking down of an adversarial posture between the consumer and the sales practitioner. Just like FAIR HOUSING, and then some! That is the very beginning of our protocol for the blending of self-transformation and commercial interactions between a Buyer and a Seller.

In all of this, one paradigm, that I am intimately involved with and that should not be neglected as a subset of an overall commercial enterprise paradigm is the significant and important activity in business is that of selling. ‘Selling,’ as generally thought of, involves the way we interact as companies and individuals with trading our goods and services mostly for currency.

Some of the corrupt practices of selling goods and services have affected the social and political life of this country. Last week a major American technology company was "HACKED". This major technology company supports many platforms including the data that if feed to aviation pilots. If you Google, you will read that they called the "HACKER" a playboy. Being first to report and first to come up with a romantic label is not new. It is the best sort of comedy and it's not NEWS either. Selling "NEWS" this way is not acceptable. The reporting created an adversarial posture. It is my claim that this lack of sales ethic in "NEWS" has permeated our political and social life!

My current business as a licensed Realtor, specializing in luxury homes is all about sales- but in a highly innovative and effective way. A way that has produced a great deal of success. Many outpace me and have equally high standards of selling. Business like mine, that put themselves in the middle of human interaction can be more stressful and are extremely rewarding. We also have the unique opportunity to be personally involved. Let us remember that the business’ that are NOT personally involved DO NOT have their integrity tested every single day.  For this high standard of integrity which I propose we strive for; I predict for those of us who engage and practice and SELL with this high standard, we will continue to grow stronger. Let us continue do it together and make a difference for the neighborhoods, counties, and country in which we live. Stronger. Better. HOME!

Wow what a great article. As a person who grew up in an entrepreneurial family and graduated with a major in Political Science and minor in US History, you nailed what in my opinion is one of keys of American greatness. I have always felt one can be as successful as your abilities and drive takes one. Thanks for your thoughts.
