A HOME IS A PLACE TO UNWIND
With stress becoming a major factor in today’s work and social climate, it is increasingly important that one has a place to relax. Make your home into such a place. One of this season’s Dream Backyards was designed by international award winning landscape designer Peter Logan of Aqua Art. People need a relief from the blacktop, concrete and steel landscape of Los Angeles.
The perfect solution is to go home to a natural environment to wind down. In this yard, plants and a variety of sculptured shrubs were provided by Garden View Nursery. Bringing nature into your backyard attracts a variety of birds and puts one in touch with a higher quality of living. Your backyard can assume the aspect of a calming park, a quiet forest glen or a babbling brook as a gathering place for family and friends, a sanctuary from the hubbub of the city.
Consider, as well, incorporating water features into the design. Logan says , “Aside from the visual aesthetics, there is nothing like the sound of water to make people relax. That is what they really want! I create a place where they can’t help but unwind. What I’ve tried to do in this show is choose people and products that can help one relax.”
One of the ways to alleviate stress is to take care of all the little home repair headaches that crop up. A leaking sprinkler, a door that doesn’t close properly and an electrical fixture that doesn’t go on can be bothersome. One of the sponsors of the Dream Backyard, Randy Mate (known as Randy the Handyman and for New Castle Remodeling), says, “Fixing or improving a home can go a long way toward improving a homeowner’s peace of mind.” These little aggravations actually add up and darken one’s day to some degree. Handling them frees up attention that can be otherwise used to enjoy life. Who needs the stress at home? The bottom line is, your home should fit the structure and activities of your life – not the other way around.
