Home Assistant - Create an input number to define any value

Hello guys,

This evening I want to introduce you the Input Number integration.

It's very simple: it just allows you to define a value directly via your Home Assistant instance.

Scenario

May be you need to have a dynamic value to be used as a threshold in your automations: the Input Number is the right solution!

Home Assistant code (yaml) / steps

• Browse the menù Settings?->?Devices & Services?->?Helpers directly from the Home Assistant user interface
• Click this button:

• Select the Number option
• You'll get this form to configure your Input Number:

Some specifics about the code / steps above

1. Name: it's the friendly name of your Input Number to be dispalayed on your Home Assistant dashboard
2. Icon: it's the icon to be associated to this new entity. In the example above, I've used the icon identified as mdi:numeric
3. Minimum value: It's the minimum value can be allowed
4. Maximum value: It's the maximum value can be allowed
5. Display mode: slider or input field
6. Step size: increasing / decreasing steps for changing the values
7. Unit of measurement: unit of measurement in which the values are expressed in

The big thing is that the values within the Input Number field can be modified using the following services:

1. input_number.set_value
2. input_number.decrement
3. input_number.increment
