THE HOLY TRINITY OF PERSONAL GROWTH

THE HOLY TRINITY OF PERSONAL GROWTH

Back in August of last year I attended a 9-day retreat in New York to become a Breathwork Practitioner.?

It was an amazing experience, especially for my personal growth and development.

Some of you might know that I’ve been a ‘Gestalt Practitioner in Organizations’ since 2016.

Gestalt has it’s origins in psychotherapy, although Gestalt theory and practice entered People Development in the mid-20th century.

If you’ve ever done any kind of role play or other experiential activity, you’ve practiced Gestalt.

In a nutshell, Gestalt highlights the wisdom of direct experience, the importance of self-awareness and other common sense ideas that have helped me in my work - especially the principle that THE BODY NEVER LIES.

If a coachee tells me they feel great, but their body says something else…I believe the body. Every time.

I believe Breathwork will allow me to incorporate a focus on the “soul” to complete the MIND-BODY-SOUL “HOLY TRINITY OF PERSONAL GROWTH”.

Soul is often used synonymously with spirit, energy or intuition.

One thing I love about working with people 1:1 is that I can focus on where the individual is right now.

For example, some people lead with emotional intelligence (EQ) while others have never heard of it. In my work, I try and adapt my approach based on who I’m working with.

This isn’t as easy with a group as people are at different places…although a group quickly forms a culture, which a good facilitator learns to navigate.

Some groups openly disagree with each other while others do anything possible to avoid unpleasant conversations.

I find the sooner I get my participants interacting and cooperating with each other, the better.

If they have some fun in the process, even better.

MIXING IT UP

On a different note, I’ve come to believe that personal growth and career success are intertwined. Inseparable, in fact. If you don’t prioritize personal growth, you might have some success...BUT, you won’t be able to sustain it.

Look no further than this other trinity of personal growth:

·??? Self-awareness

·??? Personal resilience

·??? Emotional intelligence (EQ)

Think about it - to effectively lead yourself or anyone else, you have to be aware of what drives you, what you need, etc.

The same goes for leading people - you have to understand what others need to feel and perform at their best, for example.

PRO TIP: If you want to grow self-awareness, I recommend doing something outside your comfort zone. Do something where you are surrounded by people different from you. The more uncomfortable you feel, the more you grow.

Moving forward, The Career Success Newsletter will have a sharp focus on personal growth and development.

As mentioned, success in your work can't happen without it. (EQ, etc.)

Personal growth leads to an alignment of your work and life purpose.

THAT is what I call career success.
