Holocaust Memorial Day – Never Again

On the 27th of January, students across the globe will gather to honour Holocaust Memorial Day, solemnly remembering the harrowing events of World War II. This day is dedicated to the memory of the diverse groups who suffered: Russians, Polish, Romani (Gypsy), disabled individuals, political dissidents, Jehovah's Witnesses, Jewish victims, and numerous others.

As we reflect on these tragic occurrences, we must reinforce the global vow made in the aftermath of this catastrophe – 'never again'. The establishment of the International Court and the creation of international laws stand as testaments to this promise, aiming to ensure that the horrors of World War II are never repeated.

Yet, today's reality presents a disconcerting parallel. We witness a tragedy in Palestine where Jews who were once oppressed have alarmingly become the oppressors. This echoes the Biblical account of Moses leading the Jews from slavery. Despite witnessing a series of miracles, including the parting of the Red Sea, they soon forgot their divine deliverance and reverted to idol worship, leading to 40 years of further tribulations. This narrative is a stark reminder of humanity's propensity to forget.
