A Brief Recap - If you know the story, skip the next paragraph...

After months of planning, June 26th, 2018 was the last day in our house. My wife, Nikki, my 5 year old son Fox, and our two English bulldogs (Pocket and Marley) were set for an adventure. We had sold most of what we own except for what could fit in a 10’x10’ offsite storage, and we had leased our house out for the next 8 months. We would be kicking this journey off in an RV that I was borrowing from a friend, and traveling from Austin, TX to Dixfield, ME.So many people are looking for a guarantee that the risk they are going to take is going to workout. What? Where’s the risk in that??

Hollywood Nights ??

Being on this journey looks fun but changing my entire life to align with my values has stretched me beyond what I thought I was capable of.

I had a chance to spend 10 days in the Los Angelos area…free housing with a car. All I had to do was fly there. My wife Nikki was already there for work.

The idea excited and paralyzed me all at the same time. I was excited to do something that would align with my journey; however, I was fearful of spending money and being away from my son (with the grandparents). Plus, I didn’t have anything planned out there…I had this idea that I could only go unless I could guarantee that it would be a profitable trip.

What a load of crap. Ticket booked.

I posted online that I was going to Cali and asked who wanted to meet up.

Germain Louie and Lucy Beaudette were the first to reach out and invited me to speak at their LinkedIn Local.

From there more people reached out and then more people. The calendar was filling up fast.

Even leaving for the trip I still found myself trying to control everything and feeling stressed.

My wife was amazing and surprised me with several amazing gifts for my birthday. We went to the Laugh Factory, the San Diego Safari, I FLEW A PLANE OVER LA, we made a new friend with Hollywood stunt man, Sammy Maloof, connected with a ton of people - Brian Schulman, Carey Junkunc, Kirk Thompson, Jeff Skelton, Eric Kohner, Rob Bull, and more! I even got a new client!!!

Flying a plane was absolutely insane!!! I thought that I would get to maybe touch the controls for a second and that would be it; however, that was not the case! It was a sunset flight lesson over Hollywood and LA. I remember the pilot, Kerry, telling me that he was going to take off and land the plane but I would doing the rest of the flying! It was the most relaxed I had ever felt...it was such a free feeling soaring above the crazy traffic. It was a very humbling experience...I can understand why people get hooked on it. It is definitely something I would like to pursue in the future!

Meeting Dr Dave White was an epic experience! I got to meet one of hero’s, mentor, friend, and fellow warrior. He is a man of many hats: NCAA Division I Basketball referee, father, coach, Entrepreneur, man of faith, etc. He is an amazing human being.

I’ve never met anyone like him. One conversation with him is just life giving. He knows how to hold the space, see your potential, and help you unleash your epicness!!! I’m honored to call him a brother and friend.

And then there was meeting Sammy Maloof...

You are only as good as the people you surround yourself with!

That’s why I feel so blessed to have met Sammy Maloof.

Sammy is one of the top stuntmen in the entertainment industry and has done some epic stunt driving that has been featured in the Fast and the Furious franchise along many other high profile tv/movies.

During my visit in LA, I had the honor of hanging out with Sammy in his garage earlier in the week.

It would be easy to just be swept away by all the cool cars and stuff that Sammy has done; however, the real honor was getting to know the amazing man of faith that he is. Sammy is also an anointed speaker who travels the world speaking to people of all walks of life. He is also a wonderful husband and father to three wicked cool daughters.

I really got to know Sammy by seeing the people he chooses to surround himself with. His garage is a place for fellowship and community. It feels like family.

On Sunday’s Sammy opens it up for a church service. A service unlike any other I have been too. There is powerful energy there that cannot be appropriately articulated in words.

Sammy is a one of a kind. He is a man of honor who truly lives with a courageous heart.

I will tell you this...meeting Sammy has had a massive impact on my life already. He challenged me to think differently and gave me vision to my blind spots...he taught me about the power of my words and thoughts.

I’m blessed to know him and I’m grateful to call him a brother.

But the real magic was my evenings spent walking on the beach with my wife. It grounded me and allowed me space to surrender my fears and my need to control everything.

This year has been about experiencing life...not buying stuff. This was well worth it!!

We created some rules around finances this year. Only spend money on:

? Needs for our family (food, shelter, etc)

? Things that will make money (investing in our businesses)

? Experiences (travel, adventure, etc)

?? Stuff

Once I surrendered control, my stress levels vanished, I started having fun, and awesome stuff started to happen!

Grateful for this journey and all that I am learning from it! ??
