HOLLYWOOD, CLIMATE CHANGE & SKY CITIES ...ARE WE READY?

I am a filmmaker from San Francisco, living and working between San Francisco and Prague, who has been developing an epic sci-fi TV series called Sky City Haya about the unfortunate reality we are living with today. I’m speaking, of course, about the devastating effects of climate change. Unfortunately, we all understand what a dystopian world can look like with the ordeals we’ve faced this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. My home state of California is also going through major wildfires, which are covering the skies in orange-tinged ash like a scene out of Bladerunner. And here in Prague, four seasons have effectively been reduced to two as I remember a time when snow covered all of Prague for months during winter and summer was moderately warm instead of super hot. The story deals with the future results of a climate-ravage world taking place in the year 2248 when humanity is faced with climate-induced annihilation as the earth’s surface gradually becomes uninhabitable. In order to save the human race, the world’s largest corporate consortium starts to build a city in the sky to serve as a refugee far above the intense pollution, extreme heat, permafrost pandemics, and never-ending resource wars that plague the surface. The story follows a bounty hunter who is hired by his old flame to track down her missing husband, the only one who can stop this sky city, which is experiencing both political and technical problems, from crashing to the earth, thereby driving humanity to extinction. I’ve written a pilot, created an in-depth show Bible, and this sizzle pitch reel. I’ve worked with both 2D and 3D concept artists as well as production managers, production designers, directors of photography, music composers, actors, and many other artists to bring the project to its current state. Last year I was invited as a finalist to pitch the series at the ATX Television Festival and the project has twice been a finalist in the ScreenCraft Film Fund competition. I am now working with several producers here in Prague to budget the pilot as well as with a production company in LA to shop the series to investors and studios and with a member of the New Mexico Film Foundation to seek investors funds. I’m working with my production team to prepare our proof-of-concept short film shoot which will kick start the series by introducing the main character, the world, and the overall conflict. And I’m simultaneously writing and illustrating a graphic novel of the film. The reason I’m sharing this is that the effort to turn this epic idea into a reality is most challenging. And it’s important because it’s an entertaining vehicle to inform, educate to warn people about what is happening. This is a TV show you would love to watch but a future you’re desperate to avoid!
