Personal Update: I am here in Seoul and love it. It feels like LA and NYC combined. In an upcoming week I want to share more about the social channels they use in Asia, but until then I wanted to share some things I found really interesting:

  • Selfie “stores” are everywhere - literally these places that you can go in and use a Photo Booth with props (open 24/7 and most automatic)
  • What I have noticed is for any celebrity holiday they have special props and such to really get people in during these times - great to keep It relevant.
  • All cafes are themed and retail stores ALL have photo/selfie opportunities in stores
  • This has made cafe hopping even more fun and honestly endless
  • The retail designs/architecture is unreal here
  • Most retail shops I have walked in (mainly the Korean owned brands) are doing FB/IG/TikTok LIVES during their open hours - I really love that they tapped into the store workers for this and I have already been in the background of too many of them.
  • People will just go LIVE on FB/IG/TikTok while doing any regular activity to show what is going on - again I have been on the background of too many
  • TikTok has a pre-built beauty filter when you get on it here - so I cannot even take a TikTok video of myself without honestly looking completely different (unless I filed with my back camera)

Speaking to all of this - the selfie movement and content creation is just a regular day thing. I feel in the US people are still somewhat judged or embarrassed, but it’s a huge part of the culture here. I especially love how much they use trends/pop culture and design to really keep people interested in their brands. I am also super curious how much going LIVE all the time helps with sales/brand awareness.?

Otherwise this week I wanted to talk about the killer combo. When I first got into social it was not seen as much more than something fun to do for your brand - now you can argue it is the TOP marketing method for brands, but something I remind brands of every single day is you can’t put all your eggs in one basket and you need to take a holistic approach - working with several channels and making sure they work well together.?

When I am thinking of this holistic approach I am thinking about…

  • Social Media
  • Email
  • SMS
  • IRL/Activations
  • Paid Placements/Traditional Advertising

Anyways, I wrote a quick blog post about it that you can?check out here.

Ok last thing for today-?this editing style is becoming popular?(maybe just a trend) but feels cool and could be a great way to create images into TikToks. On that note it seems moodboard/collages are coming back - remember Polyvore? Well, Pinterest just created their own version,?Shuffles.
