Holidays - a time for reflection

Holidays are often the time when much reflection takes place and decisions are made regarding the next step on or in some cases off the career ladder. The warm sun on your face; the sand beneath your feet; the relaxing swims and the relaxed mind ensure that you start to look to the future with wishful thoughts. For many, wishful thoughts are all they remain, but for others the time to change direction, jump "ship" and take the plunge into a new career.
The next question is where to go to from here. Do you actively start to look there and then, praying that the job of your dreams will float along to you on the surf or do you go on that trek into the outback and search it out. "Life is like a box of chocolates" to quote Forrest Gump. This can also be the description of some job adverts. They draw you in with interesting and promising headlines but when you "bite" into the description the vacancy is disappointing, lacks substance and space whilst others give the opportunity to savour the moment.
Enjoy your holiday but look forward to the future and when you unpack that case remember that you are beginning to cleanse everything and start the next step on your new career path whether this is with a new company or progressing upwards within your current environment. Remember reflection is often the order of the day when lazing around and a refreshed employee is better than an unhappy one.
