Holidays Are a Time For Cheer
Eric V. Thomas, SPHR, GPHR
(He/him) HR leader/business consultant, career & life coach, public speaker and radio guest. I help people and companies get better.
Gratitude has long been hugely important to me. Even in the hardest of times, there is at least one thing we each can find for which to be grateful.
This year we know has hit all of us harder than years past. I certainly could find myself weighed down by a number of crushing professional and personal disappointments but, every day, I practice an exercise called “3-2-1-Live” and that helps to again ground me. (More on that exercise at the end of the upcoming podcast!)
The reality is that I am quite fortunate and I try to remember that and to give back throughout the year, personally and through the efforts of our charitable arm at Cire Omni Solutions. At the holidays, I feel more inclined to give on a more personal level. You may recall that last year, I invited people across my social media platforms to “join me” for a birthday coffee, sharing with them the bar code from my Starbucks card so they could screenshot it and have it scanned by the barista to pay for their drink. The only thing I asked in return was for a picture of them enjoying their drink to bring a sense of community. (Check back around my birthday later this month to see if I will be repeating this event this year.) ;-)
With 2020 being...well...2020, I’d like to try (or add) something new and I ask you to work with me to bring a tiny bit of joy into the world. Here is what I need from you...
Maybe you know someone who needs help remembering that they too have something for which to be grateful. Maybe it is someone who has had an especially tough time this year. Maybe someone you work with feels alone and like no one is in their corner. Maybe a person in your life does great deeds for others and you think should receive a bit of joy in return. Tell me who – and why – and each day, December 1 to December 31, I will select one person to be that day’s “winner” and send them something from their Amazon list (or an Amazon gift card).
To enter someone, send to [email protected] an email with the nominee's:
- name
- city/state
- email address
- a link to their Amazon wish list (optional)
- why you think they should be chosen
Be sure to also include your name and let me know whether or not I have your permission, if they are selected, to let them know that it is because you nominated them
That’s it! I’ll do the rest and let you know if your nominee was selected. You can nominate more than one person but you do not have to submit the nominee more than once. Nominees remain in the pool of candidates either until they are selected or until the final recipient is selected on December 31, 2020, whichever comes first.
Regardless of what or how you celebrate, let’s have fun this holiday season. Let's help each other remember that there are reasons to be grateful, and let's spread a little much needed joy…together.
