7-7 Market Highlights (November 19 - November 25, 2017)

Salute. Happy Thanksgiving and Holidays to the U.S. Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guards, Police, and Fire Fighters and countless uniformed service members. These are the images of our uniformed service women and men serving everyday, and on Thanksgiving Day and every Holidays. Some never had chance to eat their holiday meal. Salute. Thank YOU.

This week "7-7 Market Highlights" is dedicated to the U.S. Armed Forces, Police, Fire women and men for serving our world, this country and people. Thank YOU. Salute.

1. U.S. Army on Thanksgiving Day. (image-Korean War).

The U.S. Army’s mission is to fight and win our Nation’s wars by providing prompt, sustained land dominance across the full range of military operations and spectrum of conflict in support of combatant commanders. Many of these service members perform training exercises, combat duties, and other duties at deployed to conflict zones like Syria or Iraq or potential "hotspots" like Somalia.

The modern Army has its roots in the Continental Army which was formed on June 14, 1775, before the establishment of the United States, to meet the demands of the American Revolutionary War. Congress created the United States Army on June 14, 1784 after the end of the war to replace the disbanded Continental Army.

2. U.S. Navy on Thanksgiving Day.

The mission of the Navy is to maintain, train and equip combat-ready Naval forces capable of winning wars, deterring aggression and maintaining freedom of the seas. Many sailors and their ships are currently deployed overseas around the world on Thanksgiving Day and throughout holidays.

The United States Navy claims 13 October 1775 as the date of its official establishment, when the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution creating the Continental Navy. With the end of the American Revolutionary War, the Continental Navy was disbanded.

3. U.S. Air Force on Thanksgiving Day.

The mission statement of the Air Force is: "The mission of the United States Air Force is to fly, fight and win in air, space and cyberspace.

Initially part of the United States Army, the USAF was formed as a separate branch of the military on 18 September 1947 under the National Security Act of 1947. It is the most recent branch of the U.S. military to be formed, and is the largest and one of the world's most technologically advanced air forces.

?4. U.S. Marines on Thanksgiving Day.

Purpose of the Marine Corps defends the people of the United States at home and abroad. To do that, we make Marines who win our nation’s battles and return as quality citizens. The United States Marine Corps (USMC) is a branch of the United States armed forces. Resolutions of the Continental Congress established the United States Marine Corps on November 10, 1775. The official mission of the U.S. Marine Corps was established in the National Security Act of 1947, amended in 1952.

5. U.S. Coast Guards on Thanksgiving Day.

The USCG carries out three basic roles, which are further subdivided into eleven statutory missions. The three roles are: 1) Maritime safety, 2) Maritime security, 3) Maritime stewardship. And, the eleven statutory missions as defined by law are divided into homeland security missions and non-homeland security missions. Non-homeland security missions include: Marine Safety, Search and Rescue, Aids to Navigation, Living Marine Resources (fisheries law enforcement), Marine Environmental Protection, and Ice Operations. Homeland security missions include: Ports, waterways, and coastal security (PWCS); drug interdiction; migrant interdiction; defense readiness; and other law enforcement.

The modern Coast Guard was formed by a merger of the Revenue Cutter Service and the U.S. Life-Saving Service on 28 January 1915, under the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

6. U.S. Police on Thanksgiving Day.

The mission of the Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in the City and people by working cooperatively with the public and within the framework of the U.S. Constitution to enforce the laws, preserve the peace, reduce fear and provide for a safe environment. (Each state and city may have a slight variation.)

Sir Robert Peel created with installation the 1st English police branch, the London Metropolitan Police in 1829, and American police branch in the North substitute, in Boston in 1838. Consisted of purely 8 participants, and worked purely in the day time, substitute into not totally uniformed till 1859.

7. U.S. Fire Fighters on Thanksgiving Day.

The Fire Department preserves life and property, promotes public safety and fosters economic growth through a commitment to prevention, preparedness, response and recovery as an all risk life safety response provider. Vision-Provide exceptional Fire Protection and Emergency Medical Services by being metric driven, technologically sophisticated and community focused. Core Values-1) Service – Dedication to our Community, 2) Professionalism, 3) Integrity, 4) Respect, 5) Innovation, 6) Trust. Firefighters' Operating Principles: Operate through Teamwork, Operate to Position the Department for the Future, and Operate Ethically and with Integrity. In 2015, 70% of firefighters in the United States were volunteer. Only 4% of calls were actual fires. 64% were medical aid. 8% were false alarms.

On January 27, 1678 the first fire engine company went into service with its captain (foreman) Thomas Atkins. In 1736 Benjamin Franklin established the Union Fire Company in Philadelphia, PA. On April 1 of 1853, Cincinnati, Ohio featured the first professional fire department made up of 100% full-time employees.

These are my researched and analytical thoughts (saluting uniformed service women and men) of the week reflecting the U.S. uniformed service members.

Mahalo. I welcome your thoughtful comments, “like” notes, and share.
