Yesterday’s LinkedIn Live with Sheva Guy, PhD, CDP?, Prosci????? uncovered an intriguing overlap in the workplace Venn diagram: where PTO, self-care, affordable childcare, and time off for all religious and cultural holidays meet. We need to investigate the middle of that Venn diagram more.
Business leaders encourage everyone to prioritize their wellness, but for those who aren’t Christian, PTO often doesn’t fully cover their observances. And while we love an office celebration, are we respecting when people need to slip out early—for childcare, a little breather, or to just skip the extra noise?
If we want truly inclusive workplaces, we need to move beyond just good intentions. What if the office became a space where everyone’s traditions, needs, and choices fit right in? We could lead with flexibility, respect, and, yes, a little creativity, too—because the best way to celebrate is by making sure there’s room for everyone to join in—or opt out—authentically.

Looking Forward
We’re taking a break for the holidays but will be back in January with more LinkedIn Live discussions on Redefining Professionalism. Have a safe, joyful season—and don't forget to reach out to a friend or former colleague you haven't spoken to in a while. The holidays can be lonely and isolating for many people.

3 周While this varies by country, most IS businesses only provide holiday pay for the federally mandated holidays. Christmas Day is included but is the only religiously related one. Not attending events where alcohol is served or needing to leave for observances are legal requirements. That doesn’t prevent nosy folks asking questions but folks need to learn these are rights. In terms of religious acceptance in the workplace, the highest priority I know of - far above time off - is providing safe space for those who pray during the day. Looking at Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and Hinduism, there are about at least two dozen major holidays. Does everyone get each of those days off? What about minority regions such as neo-paganism? We have eight sabbath? Periods of fasting? It is, in my opinion, not logical to ask companies to give up that productively because the government mandated Dec 25 as a day off.
