Today I presented my annual holiday learning plan to my learner community at Business School of AI and also live streamed it on LinkedIn. Join WeeklyWed to get the recording and followup recommendations at bit.ly/weeklywedregistration
I gave a framework for learners to ask 3 questions to decide what to learn in the expanding world of GenAI and offered guidance on how to build a learning plan to enhance your career with AI.
3 Questions to Ask to figure out what technology to learn in AI
Don't pick any technology. Pick a technology that answers your questions. So Learn to ask questions when you come across articles or blogs or any new AI jargon.
We did an exercise to answer this question -
There were several answers from the learners - all valid but for specific job roles - prompt engineering, integration of chatbots to other backend systems, RAG with corporate data, hallucination detection and mitigation, several programming languages ...
The question is what technology is important for everyone to learn regardless of their job role.
The Answer is: Fine-Tuning
Fine-Tune is how the last layer of the neural network of the large language model is trained for setting the tone of the chatbot, or to teach it terminologies for specific industries or to teach it new languages.
As a product or business person you need to provide the right dataset.
As a data scientist you need to build a supervised learning model for fine-tuning
As legal or AI Ethics department you need to manage the business risk of what to stop and what not to limit with model refusal from the chatbot.
As AIX UX designers you need to design the right communication interface.
My recommendation for learning AI

3. You bring industry experience, so connect your many worlds to position yourself unique in the AI world.
For example, I brought my experience from the world of autonomous vehicles and my current teaching of LLMs to present a poster "Can LLMs learn from Autonomous Vehicles"
Finally, develop a learning plan for 3-6-9 months with dates and stay accountable with a learning buddy.
Happy Learning and Happy Holidays!!!
