Holding the Umbrella
Near the end of the year in any school is TOUGH! Heck, the whole school year is tough, but the end of the year is significantly tougher on everyone. My colleague described it like the ride home after a long family vacation. Kids are tired of each other, parents are tired of kids, parents are tired of each other, and everyone is tired of the trip. Everyone just wants to be home.
As the lead learner in our school I found myself drawn to another analogy. Holding the umbrella. When it starts to rain, some people will stand under the umbrella you open. Others will find their own cover, and then you have those that will just stand in the rain. At the end of the year as you try to encourage your fellow educators, holding the umbrella, some will take refuge under it; others will stand alone in their own cover, and yet others will stubbornly just stand in the negativity.
Our job is to continue to hold the umbrella, and hope others will join us as we walk through the storm together. #community #collaboration #trust #communication
