HOLDING ON TO TENSION? EVEN IN THE GOOD TIMES?

Are you clenching your jaw as you read this?
Perhaps scrunching up your forehead?
Leaning your head so far forward that it might fall off your head?
I'm asking these questions because many of us carry our tension with us, not just in the tense moments but also in the calm ones that are not tension causing. What is the purpose of this? Why can't we let go of our tension or park it and deal with it later? Or resolve it in the moment and move on?
Why can't we let go of our tension?
It's safe to say we like to complain and sometimes like being the victim. We like to ruminate and our own thoughts can cause our anxiety. Yes, that's not our permanent state and it's not all of us but you have to admit this sounds like you, sometimes. Especially when you're going through some difficult times it's easy to keep it difficult because the alternative is to deal with it, perhaps manage it and then you're left with open space, or silence. Imagine that? Free time not carrying around your tension? Breathing deeply and focusing on the positive and present moment.
Breathing deeply and focusing on the positive and present moment.
I’m not trying to be hard on you or me but it’s a realization I’ve come to through my life experience. Sometimes when I go outside to experience a sunny day I scrunch my face only to realize I have sunglasses and could keep my face calm and relaxed. I’ve also experienced moments where I’m holding my breath or my shoulders are up in my ears and I’m in a calm place with nothing to worry about.
So what is this tension’s purpose?
So what is this tension’s purpose? What benefit does it play in our lives? If you’re not sure, see if you can just let it go, at least during non tense moments. Begin to do that on a regular basis and see if it improves your life somewhat. If you are able to control your emotions versus then controlling you.
Letting go of tension, moving beyond it often and proving to yourself you can allows you to do it more often and changes your behaviors for the better. It puts you in the driver seat and brings more freedom to your mind and body, allowing for you to spend time enjoying life versus stressing.
