As we all know the one challenge we all (recruiting folks) are facing is fueling the engines of the organizations by filling their resourcing needs. Its a candidate driven job market and candidates are now in a position of power because more often than not, candidates choose companies, not the other way around. As a result, the hiring market is more competitive than ever which is pushing the boundaries of how we recruit.
If we want to attract a quality candidate, we need to differentiate from our competitors. Ask ourselves "why top talent should work for our company instead of our competitors". Candidates are searching for more than just a high salary and comprehensive benefits; they expect employers to be appreciative of their efforts and achievements. They want an actual great place to work (not a certificate) — a company with an inspiring company culture — that recognizes and rewards their employees.
What we can do (other than just the high salary which is blowing the market these days anyways). One such thing I can think of is derive a great reward and recognition plan which is simple, easy and can be continuously practiced. Identify your company core values, define the culture you want to build on the basis of values and bring it down to have people demonstrate the same in their behavior (i am practicing coach by the way :-)). Further on, reward & recognize the behavior not just the results. Rewarding behaviors you want to reinforce in the workplace is a more effective way to positively influence and build company culture. Rewarding desirable behavior leads to desired results and encourages others to reinforce the same behavior.
An appreciative culture and more so a Peer to Peer rewarding culture (can be just claps for someone) motivates and brings positivity. Its simple, easy and increases peer bonding which retains lot of resources as well. Sharing employee experiences with your rewards and recognition program on social media can showcase it to the prospective hires.
Needless to say, what we feel inside we reflect outside.. happy resources can do half of the job as company ambassadors by positive word of mouth.. thoughts...
