Hold Your Tongue

Hold Your Tongue

Today's devotional is from A Daily Taste of Proverbs

“A prudent man keeps his knowledge to himself, but the heart of fools blurts out folly” - 12:23.

Believers are people of "the Word" so words are important to us. What's more, it's part of our nature to want to be heard, which means it is part of our nature to talk. Therefore, it can be difficult to be silent when you know something but others aren't asking for your opinion or input. It can even more difficult to keep quiet when you know you have something to say but are certain others won't receive it. It's even worse when you have nothing to say—but still say it.

Do you need to improve your listening skills and learn to hold your tongue more often? Do you speak first and then think? Do you need to be more prudent not about what you have to say but when you say it? Check out what James wrote about the tongue in James 3 and then work on ruling your tongue with the help of God's Spirit.
