Hold tight here we go!

Hold tight here we go!

A week ago I flew out to Spain into the dry humid and hot air, to be with my sister-in-law as she had an emergency regarding her imminent birth. A week has gone, checks have been made and the doctor was pleased and everything is back on track.

This is a complex situation!

That required me to stay calm and connected.

This is not a time to rush and push, it is time to listen and wait.

To be kind and breath.

Why?

Every baby deserves to be welcomed into the world through love and support, along with the mother and family.

Yesterday I mentioned how I was going to a well-being at work event in Amsterdam and I also made a simple choice well-being over work.

I cancelled two workshops next week and am staying on for another week. I’m lucky that I can connect with my one to one clients via video conferencing, where ever I am.

My monkey mind still gave me a hard time, what will the organizer of the workshop think, what will the participants think? I choose to move my thoughts towards support again. My workshop have already been rescheduled for two weeks time. I am really grateful.

What I am doing now?

I’m now holding space for birth

What does that mean?

First and foremost is psychological safety.

I learned this over 10 years ago with from Binnie Dansby who I trained in source process breath work and showed me what psychological safety and support feels like in the body. This is the foundation of embodied leadership. Binnie’s work has been informed by her deep experience working with pregnant women for a very long time. It has helped me with my work with many parents to do the same and now with executives and teams.

What can a fairground ride tells us about holding space?

Explore - It’s a reminder to explore the thinking mind rather than react. To not get caught up in the lights and swirling motion, to observe - the basic act of #mindfulness. This is the start to really being able to hold space, take100% responsibility for your emotions and choices that we make.

Play - helps use to state shift - it moves towards fun, creativity, innovation and relaxation. It was fun to make to the ride out of simple parts into a complex machine. It brought me joy to watch my nephew see this for the first time and it brought him joy to see it.

Love - makes the world go round! When we are connected to ourselves and others that is the basis of happiness, deep joy and compassion.

Although hold tight might be helpful for being on swirling fairground ride, for life we need to loosen the grip and relax into supporting one another. This is the PlayfulMonk way explore, play, love.

What would you like to welcome into you life
and
how would you hold space for that?
