Hold that thought..
COVID 19 has certainly changed the landscape. Fair to say we are living in extraordinary times and it almost needs to be ingested and digested in day to day servings as our societal senses, reactions and wellbeing are abused in the paradoxical content we are obliged to consume. The biggest concern I hold is it all leans towards a dictation of how life will be in the immediate and impending future.
Personally, I definitely have that old “September 11” feeling.
Watching the twin towers succumb to whatever forces that assisted their demise, I knew the world would never be the same. The construct of what was normal had shifted and in its stead a Brave New World yielding to the changes that would anesthetise our senses to give us a blanket to sleep under. Hollywood would later put out some movies to ensure we “got it”. It was indisputable that we weren’t going back to our Nirvana.
Whilst the COVID19 and the repercussions deliver a slightly less dramatic reaction than a George Bush, Taliban, Bin Laden, CNN fueled retributional heist did back in the day, I believe that a transition will still take place and again orchestrate an irreversible change for us all in how we live our lives.
In recent days I have seen the best and the worst in humanity. The best has been inspired by unclouded, unfiltered humanity, the worst has been humanity infected by fear, egos and righteous indignation served through mainstream, social and covert media.
Personally I have connected with more strangers since this started . A common adversity gives us a common subject to celebrate, or lament over (in this case lament) and from our 1.5mtr Social Distance we are connecting.
When the tide of COVID subsides and it becomes but another adversity humanity has dealt with, I hope that all the qualities that have awoken in our human spirit stay with us.
At some point our world started refereeing the rules and not the game. COVID has put us all on the bench and given us the chance to remember why we play the game of humanity.
Lets do our best to remember the compassion, tolerance, genuine wish for another’s wellbeing and a global connection for humanity as we move forward, and I pray we may hold on to these values, at least till another crisis engages our attention.
Good Luck, God Bless
