Hold People Accountable
Johnny Walker
My time being a blue-collar family member and worker has taught me to work with less and expect more. I will always strive for excellence and encourage everyone’s inner greatness.
We are so polarized today that it is sometimes unbelievable that people are unwilling to fight to hold people accountable. It does not matter who the candidate is, or if it's a boss or even a friend of yours, accountability is important. Holding people accountable is not a slight. It is a way of ensuring that the balance is met and both parties can achieve excellence. If you're being respectful while holding someone accountable, there really should be no animosity. Understandably, people do not like to be told that they are wrong, but sometimes it is necessary.
The problem with telling people that they are wrong is that you may be the one who is wrong. That is where it becomes a sticky two-way street. You are trying to hold people accountable, and others are being accountable, but you may have inaccurate information. So, unfortunately, tact and understanding need to be implemented so you both can do the right thing. There is no sense in going off half-cocked and angry, possibly losing a good relationship over a different opinion. Criticism should never be taken as an act against you because sometimes we are wrong and need improvement. Many times, criticism is not meant to be mean but an act of respect for the position that you hold, the actions that you make, and the effects on all of us. That is why it is essential to hold people accountable and accept the accountability for the improvement of us all.
Well, that's my spiel for today…
