HoD Mutlaneng Hosts Infrastructure IGR Technical Forum

This morning, the HoD for the Department of Infrastructure Development, Masabata Mutlaneng, hosted the virtual Technical Intergovernmental Relations (IGR) forum. The forum engaged Executive Directors from Provincial Departments and Municipalities, fostering collaboration to address pressing infrastructure challenges across the Province.

The meeting was chaired by the DDG for Education and STARS, Mmakwena Selepe. In his opening remarks, DDG Selepe highlighted the Department’s role in delivering critical social infrastructure, particularly schools, as Gauteng continues to experience rapid urbanisation, “The need for us to collaborate across different Departments in the Province and work closely with Municipalities is more critical now than ever before. Emerging issues such as food poisoning and other associated challenges, changes in climatic conditions, and extreme weather events, such as the storms that increasingly impact our communities demand a unified and harmonious response from Government. A seamless integration, rather than mere consolidation, is essential for the effective delivery of services”.

The DDG added, “As we approach the start of the new school year, the demand for educational facilities and other social amenities is increasing. This demand requires a coordinated response from all levels of government, particularly given the rapid influx of people in Gauteng. Our ability to meet these demands hinges on effective collaboration with Municipalities”.

The forum received a presentation from the Chief Director, Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), Rae Davids on the EPWP performance progress report per Municipality, the Infrastructure Delivery Platform (iDEP) system presentation was received from the Director: IRPS, Lerato Mahloane. Additional presentations discussed were on the Municipal issues that require Provincial resolution, projects that require municipal intervention and project pipeline list from the Health, Education and STARS Branches.
