HoD Mutlaneng assures Portfolio Committee – “DID will Deliver”

Today, the Head of Department for Infrastructure Development (DID), Masabata Mutlaneng ?assured the?Infrastructure Development Portfolio Committee?that the Department would be able to complete and hand over problematic projects by the end of term. This Portfolio Committee?is an important oversight body of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature. The meeting was chaired by Thokozile Magagula, a Member of the Gauteng Legislature.

According to HoD Mutlaneng, “We Department of Infrastructure Development (DID) ?have been conducting vigorous stakeholder engagements through our Inter-Governmental Relations (IGR) forums and I believe that we will be able to find resolutions so that all these projects are completed by the end of term. We realise that that we have systematic challenges and the environment needs to change. The credibility of Government is our responsibility and I want to assure this Portfolio Committee that by the end of term all problematic projects discussed today will be finalised”. HoD Mutlaneng outlined interventions to mitigate project challenges including the strengthening relationships with Client Departments, building internal capacity and the roll out of a project dashboard for real-time monitoring.?Common project challenges relate to?cross border land,?town planning,?land transfer from the City of Johannesburg (CoJ) to the Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) and??fast-tracking the finalisation of permissions to occupy and build.


The DDG for Education and STARS, Mmakwena Selepe provided a detailed report on the status of projects across the five corridors experiencing Municipal challenges. Some of these projects include Aha Thuto Primary, Bramfischerville Primary, Durban Deep Primary, Gillview Secondary, Kwadedangendla Secondary and Rust-Ter-Vaal Primary schools. The STARS projects include?Ga-Rankuwa Child and Youth Care Centre,?Bantubonke Early Childhood Development Centre (ECD),?Boipatong Social Integrated Facility, Ratanda Shelter,?Sharpeville Aged Day Care Centre?and the?Sebokeng Rehabilitation Centre. Next, the?Chief Architect for Health Infrastructure,?Thirunavelli Pillay discussed the status of Health projects including?the new Finetown Clinic, Helen Joseph Hospital, Chris Hani Baragwanath Emergency and the new Johannesburg Forensic Pathology Laboratory.?

Members of the Portfolio Committee robustly engaged with the presentations and requested clear timelines for the completion of outstanding projects.?

Well done for that,you know what HoD,project planning never be perfect, however,if you continue engaging your stakeholders and your end-users it is gonna be easy for them to understand some of the threats that may delay the projects,for instance climatic conditions which are beyond your control,and you can't experience any sabotage from them. I fully support you to continue engaging your stakeholders ,ngoba most projects they take this for granted or unless there is something serious.
