Hockey Day Minnesota Weekend Recap
This Minnesota hockey tradition is better than anything Canada has to offer.?
Hockey Day Minnesota is a once-a-year event that brings together communities from all across the state across all levels of hockey.
The first game of the series was Hockey Day Minnesota 2007 which was played on Baudette Bay in Northern Minnesota between Lake of the Woods and St. Paul Johnson.
Since then, the single-day affair has turned into a multi-day event with outdoor games being played by colleges, high school teams, and the Minnesota Wild.?
Here are some crazy stats from this series:
The beauty of this tournament is that it’s not run by the same people every year. Each iteration of Hockey Day Minnesota is run by an entirely different set of local community members that work in tandem to put on a great event. Could you imagine Coachella or another big concert trying to be run by a different management team every year in an entirely different location?!?
Yes, vendors, contractors, and other organizations make some money off the back of this event. But for the most part, these events are run by volunteer teams and most of the proceeds go right back into the community that hosts the tournament.
This is what sports are all about: bringing communities of people together.
