Hoarding at the expense of time.

Dear Friends,

In the grand narrative of human history, it's a relatively recent phenomenon - only within the last 500 years - that we've witnessed an era of surplus. Abundance in food, shelter, and clothing has become the norm, reshaping our perspectives and behaviors. Yet, it's worth remembering that for much of our existence, scarcity was our constant companion, shaping our brains to be inclined towards hoarding.

Consider this: those with one house often aspire for two, and those with two yearn for five. The same sentiment extends to cars, jewelry, and clothing - the list goes on. The deeper issue with hoarding lies in its voracious appetite for our most precious resource: time. A resource that remains steadfastly limited, with every individual granted the same 24 hours in a day, regardless of their amassed wealth.

The more possessions we accumulate, the more time they demand from us - time that could be better spent with family, nurturing our health, engaging in physical activity, and allowing ourselves the essential gift of rest.

It's imperative that we acknowledge that, just as scarcity can be detrimental, so too can excess. Our experience of abundance is a relatively recent revelation, leaving us somewhat unprepared to navigate its nuances.

Meditation steps in as a beacon of wisdom, providing us with the clarity to steer clear of the trap of hoarding. It opens the door to a life rich in experiences that truly matter: quality time with loved ones, prioritizing health and well-being, and making meaningful contributions to our communities.

Wisdom need not solely arise from making mistakes; it can also be cultivated by adopting a new mental operating system that aligns with our current reality, transcending millennia of scarcity-induced evolution.

Here's to embracing the gift of meditation and unlocking the full potential of our abundant lives!

Cheers,

Nitesh
