The Cook County Hospital, built in 1914 and the inspiration behind the hit TV show "ER," sat vacant for almost two decades. The property had fallen into a state of disrepair due to deferred maintenance, vandalism and exposure to the elements. SOM along with Murphey Development collaborated with Walsh Construction, Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. and KOO to breathe new life into the historic Chicago landmark. The 354,000 square foot Beaux-Arts style building underwent a renovation totaling $90 million in an adaptive re-use project that became a dual flag, 210 room Hyatt House/Hyatt Place.
HMI Cardinal is pleased to have partnered with Walsh Construction to provide our Heavy Euro Series semi-frameless sliding shower door system for the guestrooms of this historic project. The Heavy Euro Series features 3/8" glass for a luxurious, spa-like experience and is the go-to shower enclosure for many hospitality flags across the country. HMI Cardinal is the nations largest shower door manufacturer which affords the company a lead time, product support and availability advantage over many of its competitors that heavily import from overseas for projects like these. Along with a robust shower door product line, HMI Cardinal's "Contract Division" has a dedicated team focused on providing unmatched customer service and competitive pricing for the hospitality industry.
