TikTok faces U.S. ban without court intervention

The DL: TikTok is urging a U.S. court to block a new law that would ban the app by January 19, arguing it violates free speech and is technologically unfeasible. Tensions remain high as U.S. national security concerns and the operations of foreign-owned tech platforms continue to clash. A ban would potentially affect 170 million American users, and many advertisers are devising backup plans.

Ads for Netflix subscribers seems inevitable

The DL: Netflix introduced an ad-supported tier after its growth plateaued from 2020 to 2022, but it is struggling to attract enough advertisers due to a limited user base. This challenge may lead Netflix to introduce ads to its most popular tier, risking backlash after Netflix has long marketed themselves as ad-free TV.

Amazon ads are ditching cookies

The DL: Okay, maybe not entirely, but they are headed that way. Amazon unleashed a new ad-targeting solution, called Ad Relevance, that does not rely on cookies or third-party identifiers. It uses AI to analyze browsing, purchasing, and streaming data points and matches those insights against what content a consumer is viewing in real time, and it seems to be working.

Meta may release new AI tool to boost ads for Facebook Reels

The DL: Meta is testing a new "Auto A/B Testing" feature on Facebook Reels to suggest top-performing variations of advertisers' content before posting. This AI-driven feature aims to maximize advertising efforts, save time, and improve campaign performance, helping Meta recover from stricter data regulations and privacy updates. If this feature becomes available, monitor the performance of your automated campaigns against manual ones to assess effectiveness.
