Hitmarker Highlights

Hello there ??

Welcome to the latest edition of Hitmarker Highlights!

This time, we've come with more positive news than the past couple of newsletters, even if the Saudi Arabian government's investment in the gaming industry is a bit on the controversial side.

Aside from that, Nintendo has announced the debut of its first Nintendo Live outside of Japan, there are rumors of a Persona 3 remake, and we are here to share the best job opportunities and data insights in the industry.

Let's go! ??

Hot jobs ??

You can find 100+ new vacancies that have been posted over the past week here , too.???

?? Saudi Arabian government to invest $38 billion into the gaming industry

  • After already investing in the struggling esports scene, Savvy Gaming Group, a subsidiary of the Saudi Arabian government's Public Investment Fund (PIF), plans to invest a total of $38 billion USD in the country's gaming industry.
  • After reportedly planning to acquire a major publisher for $13 billion and ruling out Electronic Arts (EA), the company announced on April 5 that it was acquiring mobile developer and publisher Scopely for $4.9 billion.
  • The PIF, which is led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, has already invested in EA, Take-Two Interactive, Nintendo, and Embracer Group. The company increased its stake in Nintendo to 8.26% in February, making it the Japanese company's largest outside investor.

Other news ???

Hiring insights ??

This week's hiring insight isn't using data on our jobs, it's using data on all of you from Q1 2023!

We hope that's not too creepy, but a number of hiring managers have been asking us for information on our candidate pool recently. That's why we dug into the analytics on our platform and on LinkedIn to create a "top 10" bar chart of user specialties. ??

It's perhaps no surprise that Game Development/Software Engineering, Game Design, and Art round out the top three, accounting for over a quarter of our candidate pool. Softer skill specialists are next up, with Business Development, Marketing, Operations, and PR making up over a fifth of candidates.

We were surprised to see "Education" in the top 10, but it could perhaps be explained by students selecting it as their specialist sector if they aren't yet embedded into the workforce on a set career path. ??

Where do you fit in on the above chart? Are you in the top 10 most competitive sectors or is your sector not shown? Drop a comment below to let us know!

Getting social ??

There's been no slowing down over on our Twitter and LinkedIn pages, where we share the best job opportunities, tips, and news every weekday.

Here are a couple of this week's top posts from our Community Manager, Rae:

Despite getting itself into plenty of legal trouble, Blizzard Entertainment remains one of the industry's largest game publishers and developers, currently operating as a subsidiary of Activision-Blizzard.

We took to LinkedIn this week to share some insight into which of its projects the company was hiring for the most, with its currently unannounced survival game leading the way and the upcoming Diablo IV following close behind.

Creating a portfolio and resume isn't always easy, which leads to many people making common mistakes that can hurt their chances of landing a job.

Over on Twitter , we've used Sally Blake's fantastic article about these common issues and provided some pointers on what to do instead to ensure that you don't become part of this group in the future.

If your resume is in good shape, now is the time to put it to work. You can find thousands of job openings in the gaming industry here . ??
