The Hitchhiker's Guide to the AI Galaxy- Ed.1

DON'T PANIC! Sorry for the reference to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, but like Arthur Dent in the first chapter of Douglas Adams' famous book, I sometimes find myself lost in all the new technology and news after everything in the world has changed.

“Science Fiction doesn't invent the future; it reports it,” I really don't remember who wrote that (sorry)

In my latest article, "35%: the slice for Creativity in AI world (for now)", I discussed about the tremendous impact and possibilities that AI brings to the creative industry.

Some people often ask me about my first steps in this transformation journey to become an AI-Powered Designer. So, I've prepared some tips for your first day of an AI-powered designer:

1. BEFORE PACKING FOR AN ADVENTURE, DON'T CHOOSE MULTIPLE PATHS TO THE SAME PLACE

I've been playing with it for a while and from the beggining I noticed a common behaviour: marvel at what AI can do and add multiple steps to their process just to see AI at work. Remember: your AI tool need to be a more directional path, not necessarily the shortest or longest.

2. CALCULATE. CALCULATE. CALCULATE.

You can only be sure that AI is contributing to your hyper-efficiency and augmented creativity if you have data to monitor the process. For time and efficiency analysis, I recommend starting with the calculation of hours worked, indirect hours and Full-Time Equivalents (FTE). For creative monitoring, peer review sessions or historical analysis of similar projects are essential.

3. THE AI IS YOUR SHERLOCK HOLMES

Use your time measurement reports as input for AI agents to find gaps and improvement points to speed up your processes, whether in pre-production, production, or post-production. For example, ChatGPT can analyze if any presentation slide materials are redundant or contain disconnected information, saving you valuable hours of review and rework. Investigate the errors in your process and materials, and everything will become clear and elementary (my dear Watson).

4. DON'T FORGET HOW LIFE WAS WITHOUT AI

As much as AIs improve every day, there will be times when a bug will halt your process, and you'll need to do things using the old-fashioned way. Don't forget how to perform simple tasks like selecting hair in Adobe Photoshop, customizing image colors in Adobe Lightroom, or working without the automatic cuts in Adobe Premiere.

Sometimes AI can't help you with the entire process, just parts of it. Don't forget how to build the foundation and let AI complete it.

5. KEEP A DIARY

A true tsunami of new AI tools hits the world every day. My advice: have something like a "Journey's Diary" to remember all your thoughts and lessons in each of these adventures. My logbook's name is "D-IA-RY," and I constantly add new things to it. Most of the time, they are disconnected pieces of information that can save you from the map full of traps.

For example, a month ago, I edited a podcast episode called "RAG vs Finetuning for Model Optimization: Which One is Better?" from Humans of Digital. The guest, Sam Witteveen from Red Dragon AI, mentioned that there are some stories stating if you are kind to AI, it can bring you better and more detailed results, as it resembles a natural conversation. Since that day, I never start a new thread on GPT without saying, "Hello, Chat, how are you doing today? Let’s create something amazing together" (“Hey Skynet! I’m a friend. Don't forget that”).

6. THE FAMOUS LIST OF AIs TO HELP YOU DAILY

Since we're talking about tools, let's discuss my favorites. This is not clickbait; I genuinely use them almost every day. It's true! I'll prove it with notes from my D-IA-RY :)

TEXT

ChatGPT:

  • Big numbers: 65% time saving in the production of video scripts and 70% accuracy in gap analysis in processes.
  • Text creation refinement;
  • Content strategy creation;
  • Co-pilot for converting technical brainstorms into briefs;
  • Video script creation;
  • Gap analysis and continuous improvement in processes and documents;

Personal life add-ons:

  • Organizing my gym routine;
  • Creating dishes that follow my nutritional diet;
  • Prioritizing agendas;
  • Mental health support;
  • Lists of movies, books and music albums;

IMAGE

Midjourney:

  • Big numbers: 3,356 images generated for various projects, including a book, restaurant menu, and five branding projects.

Midjourney is my favorite AI tool for image creation. Creating AI images in Midjourney has not only become a professional partner but also a therapeutic activity for me.

  • Image creation for pre-approval of key visuals campaigns;
  • Unique and irreplicable pieces for premium visual materials;
  • Storyboard creation for movies and corporate videos;
  • Corporate sales materials;
  • Creating footages for videos;

Personal life add-ons:

  • Creating scenes from my favorite book pages;
  • Social bias studies;
  • Interaction with the global AI user community;
  • Forum discussions on ethical limitations and platform misuse;
  • Creating scenes from my favorite book excerpts;

Note: Always use Midjourney with other AI platforms to complement your results. My suggestions: Adobe Firefly and Dall-E.

VIDEO

I've already talked extensively about the gains AI provides when linked to video editing programs like Adobe Premiere Pro in my last article. I won't go on too long, but I'll add another platforms I've been using a lot lately. Unfortunately, I don't have access to SORA (Hey OpenAI , pleeeease?). So, to generate videos with text prompts, I use Haiper.AI. In addition to creating videos, it animates images with impressive accuracy and extends videos, making scenes longer to fill the required space in videos.

AUDIO

Suno:

  • For producing instrumental songs without consuming credits from sound banks like Epidemic Sound. In addition to instrumental music, you can generate customizable lyrics and rhythms, which is very useful for an personal video clip project I'm working on (spoilers will be available soon).

Play.ht AI Agents:

  • Used for creating customizable dialogues with ultra-realistic voices. You can upload your company's database, for example, and the AI will create an agent where anyone can ask questions. A ultra realistic Generative AI will respond based on the previously provided data. Very useful for events and customer experiences. That's a valuable Gen AI tip, my friend!

That's it, folks. I'll be back soon with the Edition 02 of our Hitchhiker's Guide to the AI Galaxy.

So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish ??
