Hit Refresh – Is hitting F5 enough?

I have been fascinated by the book ‘Hit Refresh’ by Satya Nadella. It resonates more so when you find yourself in midst of such a transformation. Today, almost every organization is trying to reinvent itself in some shape and form. The key question is whether hitting F5 enough for the organizations to achieve what they are trying to do.

To explain it further, hitting F5 reloads the browser leaving the cache intact, whereas hitting CTRL + F5 reloads the content from the server.

Using the same analogy, companies need to decide whether they want to hit F5 i.e. preserve their cache (existing culture, values and environment) intact and reload the page. Nothing changes but presented with the same result again. The cache doesn’t allow you to look beyond. You keep hitting F5 and keep getting the same result, no matter how many times you hit it. Eventually, frustrated, drained you start hitting keyboard harder, still the same result. Though it gives a false impression of reloading the content but again the same result.

Time and again we have seen so many transformations failing, leaving more chaos than before.

ITS TIME TO THINK HARD – PRESS CTRL F5

If your existing transformations has failed without any tangible result, its time to think hard and clear your cache. Yesterday’s corporates are infested with deep-rooted bureaucratic processes, heavy command and control structure, and lack of agility.  It’s time to make some difficult decisions which can propel you towards future. Bear in mind that pressing CTRL F5 will slow down the things initially while it loads new content, every bit of it.

It will definitely result in a richer experience for employees and customers alike.

 Thoughts?

You are right. The result is obvious when people work best as a team in agile way without the bureaucracy with heavy command and control.
