History Repeats Itself...Again

Please suffer me for a brief story from my past. I find it relevant to the demonstrations and protests of today around humankind decency and respect for each individual, each creature roaming this planet of ours. I hope you might agree. It is not my intent to belittle others or demean their human-ness. Quite the opposite actually. My interest is to Care and Love and strike meaningful relationships with all who I might come across:

In 1968, my father was transferred to Trenton, NJ. He was being groomed with steps up the Corporate Ladder with this move. And, I was entering 7th grade in a public middle school. If you think back that far, the race riots of ’68 struck. Trenton was not spared. Riots and protests throughout the town. Including public schools. School Days ended early. Rocks being thrown at school buses everywhere. Broken glass beyond description.

  • Here’s the miracle, and reason for the story. Despite the constant bullying personally experienced, there were always Black American students around me, protecting me, and keeping me from harm’s way. They did this presumably for their care about me.

And, as it is said: That has made all the difference…Bless you each and may you be happy and at peace always…
