The History of Mental Health Awareness month.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. The month is dedicated to raising awareness of mental health issues and promoting mental wellness.
The history of Mental Health Awareness Month dates back to the late 1940s when the Mental Health America organization (then known as the National Association for Mental Health) launched a media campaign in order to increase awareness and understanding of mental health issues. Over time, this message spread and gained traction, eventually leading to the establishment of May as Mental Health Awareness Month.?
Since then, Mental Health America has continued to play a leading role in raising awareness of mental health issues and promoting mental wellness. Each year, the organization releases a toolkit of materials to guide preparation for outreach activities during Mental Health Awareness Month. These activities include media campaigns, local events, and film screenings.?
By raising awareness and understanding of mental health issues, Mental Health Awareness Month helps to reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness and encourages people to seek help if they need it. It is an important month for promoting mental wellness and helping everyone to understand that mental health is just as important as physical health.
Here at Soaak, Mental Health Awareness Month is especially important. We created Soaak from an in-clinic practice using sound frequencies and Mindful Intentions (positive affirmations) to address mindfulness, mental health, and wellness.
