Ideal Asset Classes for the Future
While there was no shortage of amazing investment ideas presented at the Summit, keynote panels focused on: fintech, technology, AI and machine learning; bitcoin and digital assets; biotech, healthcare and medicine; online education and shopping; alternative energy; food safety; venture capital; real estate and infrastructure; arts and culture; and private debt.
Leading Women in Family Offices
Successful women look to the future for new opportunities, trust in themselves, believe in their dreams, are innovative and unafraid. While it may not be necessary to distinguish between female and male due to the overriding belief that we are all one, the women in attendance agreed upon the importance of honouring the family, reading, growing, listening, and learning every day while spending time with smart people. Everything is possible when one thinks differently.
We are Undergoing a Financial Revolution
The Internet was created as an information protocol, not a transaction protocol and bitcoin and digital wallets may replace cash transactions within 10 years. In real estate, for example, the majority of assets, therefore, will be liquid, tradable and investable whereas only 1% are at present.
Making Sacrifices is Essential
Adil Alzarooni, CEO of Alzarooni Emirates Investments in the UAE, told Summit guests he believes one must deal with staff as a close as family and insist on a customer-focused culture within all of the family businesses. At times such as a crisis, everyone must make sacrifices to preserve wealth, retain jobs and help return our world to a sense of normalcy and optimism. When we stop fighting fires, we identify opportunities, he said. While we are often raised to do life in steps, what truly matters is learning how to be happy, passionate and thankful.
We Learn From Entrepreneurship
Within entrepreneurial ventures, it is all about people and teams. A talented board of advisors is helpful and by studying the success of our peers and competitors, we can learn and identify how to prosper while ‘making meaning over money,” said Dana Al Salem, CEO of Merit Capital and Co-Founder of Yahoo Europe, UK.
It’s Important to be Humble
H.R.H. Prince Michel de Yougoslavie pointed out that families must teach children what it means to make money and insist on rules and regulations geared around lasting family values. While many family offices have 1000-2000 years behind them it is essential to look to the future, have contingencies in place, remain agile, insist on governance and discipline, and stay humble to stay in power. From a young age, children must be taught to listen and adapt.
Impact Matters
Family offices that nurture, don’t exploit and stick to both of those rules will be socially responsible. The impact is ever so important today as new generations are hyper-conscious consumers who believe in the importance of standing up for what you believe in and will support companies and brands that withstand the test of promoting meaning, essence and values over wealth and money.
