HISTORY CREATED: 18-YEAR-OLD D GUKESH BECOMES YOUNGEST WORLD CHESS CHAMPION

In a thrilling showdown, Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh triumphed over Chinese title-holder Ding Liren to become the youngest world chess champion. The 18-year-old Chennai lad secured victory in the 14th and final game of the match, achieving the required 7.5 points and surpassing Liren's 6.5.

Gukesh's historic win breaks a long-standing record held by Garry Kasparov, who won the title at age 22 in 1985. This achievement is a testament to Gukesh's dedication, perseverance, and genius.

"I was dreaming of this moment for the last 10 years. I am happy that I realized the dream (and made it) into reality," Gukesh told reporters after the historic triumph.

Gukesh's journey to the top has been nothing short of remarkable. Earlier this year, he won the Candidates tournament, becoming the youngest challenger ever for the world crown. His victory has made him the second Indian to win the world chess championship title, joining the legendary Viswanathan Anand.

As the title winner, Gukesh will receive a major share of the USD 2.5 million prize purse. This victory is not only a personal achievement for Gukesh but also a proud moment for India.

A New Era for Indian Chess

Gukesh's win marks a new era for Indian chess, which has been on the rise in recent years. With this historic victory, India has cemented its position as a major force in the chess world.

Before Gukesh's victory, India had only one world chess champion, Viswanathan Anand. Gukesh's win has doubled India's tally and marked a new era for Indian chess.
