History of Cardiac Catheterization vol.1: Nobel Prize Award in 1956
Terumo Interventional Systems
Pushing Boundaries in Interventional Medicine
With the Nobel Prize ceremony taking place on December 10, our History of Cardiac Catheterization series begins with Dr. Werner Forssman, winner of the 1956 #NobelPrize for Medicine.
In 1929, Dr. Forssman performed the first human cardiac #catheterization. He placed himself under local anesthesia, inserted a urinary catheter into his antecubital vein and passed it safely to his heart, recording the results on X-Ray film. His successful experiment led to the development of this procedure, which has contributed greatly to the treatment of heart disease.
We at #Terumo Interventional Systems celebrate Dr. Forssman and the work of his predecessors, and will continue to deliver products and solutions to support medical professionals in #healthcare innovations. ?
