Historical record: Argentina exported beef for us$ 2 B in the first 9 months
Argentina became the 5th world exporter and 2nd at the regional level. For the first time in history, it exported beef for 2,000 million dollars in the first 9 months of this year, with a cumulative volume of 572,115 tons of meat with bone. Of the total exported so far, 26% were chilled cuts with the European Union and Chile as the main destinations, while the main export product that is frozen meat, 88% was marketed to China.
This year China became a challenge with the expansion of the product basket as sales of frozen and chilled cuts have been added. The first already total 5,300 tons at an average value of $ 3,200 a ton and the second are 60 tons at $ 12,000 a ton. In September 2019, the exported volume was 80,613 tonnes with bone, with an international price of 3,699 dollars per ton.
All this will allow Argentina to reach this year, according to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the 5th place in the world ranking of exporters, which is led by Brazil, with a 6% share internationally. With the obstacles to exports applied by the previous government of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, Argentina became ranked 13th in the ranking.
On the other hand, of the total sales of Mercosur, which would close this year at 3,700,000 tons, our country would contribute 19% of that volume according to USDA estimates, which would also mean that Argentina will become the second exporter at regional level.
