Historical Friends...!

There are a lot of people who read the phone and send mails. I'm waiting for a select few. Among them is Ramesh Pandit, Deputy Principal, Marathwada Mitramandal College, Pune. He always called and said, after your article, we helped that person, that organization. Pandit Sir's phone is an acknowledgment of my work. He used to say while holding the phone, the head of our organization, Principal Bhausaheb Jadhav (9850095752) wants to meet you, when are you coming. I was in Pune that day. I decided. Today I want to meet Jadhav Sir.

I, Aniket More, Nitin Kharat and I went to the Marathwada Mitramandal Sanstha in the Deccan Gymkhana area of Pune. Jadhav's meeting was going on. Many people came to see him. In it a young man was drawing my attention. I said to the Pandit Sir who was with me, Sir, why have all these congregations come? Pandit Sir said that it is the tradition of the organization to work for the blessings of the people. All these people have come to meet Jadhav Saran as his acknowledgment. In front of me sat a young man with a necklace, a box of pedestals. I tried to talk to him, but he would not talk. Pandit Sir (9922262317) said to the young man, "O king, speak freely, they are from your family." After our conversation, many people around us were saying, we have also come to thank Jadhav Sir.

The young man I was talking to was named Ashish Basavaraj Auti. He now lives in Murum (Tal. Umarga, Dist. Osmanabad). His native village is Ashta Kasar, (Tal. Lohar, Osmanabad). Ashish was saying, first mother and then father both left us. We are two brothers and one sister. Sister also left us due to illness. Since I was little, I went to live with my parents in Murum. My brother was with my grandparents in the village. My brother is working as a driver in Pune doing small jobs. My grandparents taught me up to 12th grade, pinching my stomach. The rest had nothing to do with higher education. My aunt Anita Sakhare told me about Marathwada Mitramandal. I searched. I met Jadhav Sir and told him all my situation. He took me close and put his hand on my back. I was asked, what do you want to be. I told them I wanted to be an engineer. When he turned his hand from his back, it seemed that the power of ten elephants was transmitted to his body. He called one of the men and told them, 'My admission to engineering, free accommodation in the dormitory should be arranged immediately.' They did not stop there, but they told me, if you ever wanted help, come straight to me.

Afternoon was my first year result. I passed in first class. The first phone call was made to Sir. Sir said, you have made my dream come true. Come to the office tomorrow and I'll be there today. Ashish had become emotional several times during our conversation. Just then Sir came. Many of those present were hugging Jadhav Sir, some were taking his blessings. There were tears of joy in the eyes of many.

Pandit Sir introduced me to Sir. Ashish took my leave and went to the hostel and we started chatting. Another office bearer of the organization who was with Sir, T. P. Nivlikar was saying. Our organization has a tradition since 1983. Those who are orphans, those who have no one, those who are in dire financial straits, the children of suicidal farmers, are in our organization from the very beginning till they have completed their education, until they get a job. The concept of 'Marathwada Mitra Mandal' was established by the concept of the late Shankarrao Chavan and Vilasrao Deshmukh, a former minister and leader of Marathwada. The organization was set up with the idea of ‘the interests of the majority here’. It is rarely the case that at least one and a half thousand youth get free education every year.

Jadhav Sir said, I was the principal of this institute for 22 years. The organization told me, you don't want to go after retirement, just keep the service going. My village is near Selu in Latur district. What are the dreams of a poor farmer about his son? And how they are not fulfilled, is experienced. So to me, my organization has compassion for poor children. We will take care of the needy children. Jadhav Sir was saying that we will arrange all of them for free. We come home for dinner, said Sir to his wife Given to Ranjana Jadhav. Ranjana was also a librarian in this college.

Sir showed me around schools, colleges, hostels. Dr. Kirti Deshmukh, Dr. Ujjwala Palsule, Dr. Sunil Deshpande, Dr. Chandrasekhar Talathi, the principal of all the departments was with us. Many degree courses like Engineering, Law, Commerce are offered here. While looking around the area, I noticed a large number of educational materials. I asked Sir what the material was for. Sir, we have adopted schools for education in three talukas which are facing difficulties due to heavy rains in Konkan. Trucks are going to be distributed material tomorrow. I noticed that this organization works not only for Marathwada, but for all parts of the state. We also saw the ongoing work of the organization in Karvenagar, Lohgaon, Kalewadi.

We went to Sir's house. The Marathwadi taste and demeanor of the meal made by the aunt was both Marathwadi Maya. Sir has three daughters, Asavari, Dhanashree and Sharvu. Many people who work for the sake of service neglect the house, but the sirs were seen to do justice both at home and in the service.

Heading towards Sir and Kaku's, we left for Mumbai with their blessings. There was only one thought in my mind, even today many people, many institutions carry on the legacy of education of Shahu Maharaj very neatly. Let us all together take those who are in need, those who have no one, to this person with 'gifts', to the organization and witness the work of the pages of history, the work of historical friends! Right ...?
