A Historic Week

A Historic Week

I will keep today’s post short – I would rather my US readers spend their time getting to the ballot box than reading a lengthy post from me.

Regardless of the outcome of tomorrow’s election, it is reasonable to assume half of our country will be upset with the result. This is undoubtedly the most divisive period for the US in my lifetime. As the week unfolds, there are three things I encourage everyone to keep in mind.

Be A Raven . In some indigenous cultures, ravens bring light to dark places. As we transition into this next era, be a point of light. You can’t control the election's outcome, but you can control how you show up afterward. Look for ways to be life-generating and life-enhancing, spreading light to others as we work to heal the division.

Practice beneficial communication . As you engage with others, be mindful of the five Gates of Speech:

  • Speak at the right time.
  • Speak in truth.
  • Speak with affection.
  • Speak beneficially.
  • Speak with a mind of goodwill.

Practice loving kindness . We share a kinship as humans, regardless of our beliefs. We share a kinship with all beings as residents of this planet. Our common language is love. If each of us can show up with loving kindness, it will go a long way toward healing the divide and moving us forward constructively.
