Hispanic/Latine Heritage Month: NerdWallet’s Day of Learning and Activism
Today, in celebration of Hispanic/Latine Heritage Month, NerdWallet participated in a day of learning and activism. Representing 18.7% of the American population, the Hispanic/Latine community continues to be one of the fastest-growing demographics in the US. Across four powerful sessions, Nerds learned about the Hispanic/Latine community's instrumental role in shaping the future while continuously driving innovation and economic growth.
The day began with a keynote from Shai Poulard, Head of Global Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging, dissecting the month’s theme: Driving Prosperity, Power, and Progress, to establish the context and purpose of the programming to come.
The first session of the day, moderated by Chief Product Officer Jason R. , featured a panel of Latine Nerds, who shared their experiences and engaged in a thoughtful conversation around what Prosperity, Power, and Progress means to them. Panelists included Claudia Torres Ya?ez, FGE, Rebecca Picchi, Michael Torres, and Luis Alberto Torres.
In a fireside chat, Senior Writer Melissa Lambarena spoke with Janette Luviano, founder of Luviano Consultant Media , in which she shared her experiences working in broadcast media. Janette discussed her work at Univision, Telemundo, and NBCUniversal, and provided her insights into how to better support the Latine/Hispanic Community, as a company. This session was co-sponsored by the Nerds of Color ERG and NerdWomen ERG.

The day’s third session was a discussion of Javier Zamora’s “Solito,” a captivating, thought-provoking book that delves into the experiences, voices, and stories that make up the rich tapestry of the Hispanic/Latine community. Led by NW Bookclub and Latinerds, Nerds intentionally discussed their reactions to and takeaways from the body of work.
Thank you to our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging team, including Chelsey Kramer , for leading this powerful day of learning and activism, and to all of our participants for sharing her experiences and expertise.?
