In celebration of #HispanicHeritageMonth, FAU Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters did a Q&A with some of our faculty to share their perspectives on this special month and the influence of Hispanic heritage in the United States. This week we feature Dr. Nuria Godon, Associate Professor of Spanish and the Head of the Spanish program at FAU.
1)What country are you or your relatives from?
Spain
2) What brought you or them to the United States?
I came to the United States to do a Master in Hispanic Literature and Cultures
3) What’s your current job at FAU?
I am an Associate Professor of Spanish and the Head of the Spanish programat FAU. I teach Spanish language for non-heritage and for Spanish heritage learners and speakers, literature, and culture at the undergraduate and graduate levels (MA and Ph.D.)
4) What does being Hispanic/Latino mean to you?
Being Hispanic is being part of a big family that welcomes different cultural differences, extensive vocabulary, accents and languages in?our community.?
5) Do you think your heritage has influenced your career/life?
Yes, of course, my career reflects my Hispanic pride. My passion for Hispanic cultures and for the Spanish language guides my career. Teaching Spanish language, literature, and cultures?in lingua?is the best way to offer Spanish a competitive place in world at the cultural, commercial, and scientific levels.?
